WE DONt WANT TO BE STARS
The longterm project “We don’t want to be stars (but parts of constellations)” (2023-2026) examines local and artistic communities and their methods and practices in Estonia, North Macedonia, and the Netherlands. Three art institutes: Eesti Kaasaegse Kunsti Muuseum (EE), Faculty of things that can’t be learned (MK), and Suns and Stars (NL), work toward a communal and relational artistic program of exhibitions, symposia, artist in residencies, and a publication. We depart from the concept of being-in-common, in which the common is a process of becoming-in-common. In "We don't want to be stars” the common is not defined in terms of identity, instead it describes the work of connection, of collectivity and alliance, between (local) communities, human and nonhuman, that act, build, and create in common. The cross-border notion of the common will inflate local cooperation to a European level and at the same time build a new community of stakeholders of all entities.
